Yellow Cake Recipe
Posted on July 28th, 2008 | by admin |
Ingredients:
2 3/4 c. all purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. milk
I have tried this with part butter and part shortening and didn’t like it very much, it turned out very greasy, I believe because butter has a lower melting point. This recipe can be halved or doubled with the same results and also used to make cupcakes (bake for about 15-20 mins).
You can also swap out the vanilla extract for other flavorings or add some orange or lemon zest.

Thanks for your …
Thanks for your videos!! (You should be honored to know your videos contribute to a large amount of my companies unproductive time).
I was wondering have you ever tried paper towel method of leveling your cake? As soon as you take it out of the oven, take a couple of paper towels, lay on top of the cake use your fondant smoother with little pressure, press the cake so it’s levelled.

lol-that’s funny!
I have read of a method similar to that but I actually like to have that little hump, this way I can taste and make sure I’m giving out a quality product. I tell people it’s the only time I can eat my own cake, cakes are not safe in my house, they tend to attach themselves to my hips and thighs whenever I walk by one made for just us lol!

Ah, this is not like a sponge cake or a cake mix, I would compare it more to a pound cake. Hmm, we’re actually going to be eating some today! lol!

Well, …
Thank you!
Well, I’ve only ever tried 1/2 butter and half shortening and while the cake tasted alright, it seemed kind of greasy. Butter has a lower melting point than shortening so if you were going to use all butter you’d have to somehow adjust the rest of the recipe.

You should be able …
You should be able to find it at any grocery store, Pam sells it next to their butter spray and there’s a couple of other brands too.
