    if you lock your …
if you lock your elbows you will damage your joints and you will end up with arthritis in later life and even possibly having broken arms by the end of it. This applies to all joints in the body. I hope this is a good enough explanation.

    hi there,

    hi there,
my name is nazeem and i am a certified personal trainer from cape town, south africa, but moving to dubai in a few weeks as i got a job there with fitness first.
let me explain why you should never lock out your elbows on any pressing movement – because when you lock out on pressing movements, the emphasis is placed on your elbow joint and off the actual muscles which in this case are the triceps. by not locking out, you’re maintaining continuous tension on the triceps, not joints.

    shut up propta,
im a cft as well and nazeem is actually very right, you do not lock out because it takes the stress of the intended muscle and puts it unnessesarily on the joint, which in the long term “might” cause arthritis and similar conditions depending on the person. Either way its not something you want to risk, plus you train you to your muscles not your joints.

    you seem to be …
you seem to be anti-logic.all the other explanations are correct and you just dont seem to get it.doing a squat, bench press, most exercises with the occational exception, you never lockout you knees or elbows.most trainers know this as it is fairly basic stuff.maybe you need to go back to the gym and experiment a little.
