As the beard is reduced, grain becomes more and more irrelevant.

Great series! My …
Great series! My only suggestion/request would be a comprehensive video on shaving with a straight razor. That would be incredible.

Thanks for putting these up! I’ve only recently started wet shaving with an old style safety razor so these videos are really helpful.

TheMajician- have you tried “J-Hooking” as described in my “Advanced Shaving Techniques” video?

Yes, but I wasn’t too good at it so I stopped doing that. I’ve been doing as you said in another video, shaving with the grain, lathering again, then shaving against. The razor burn has stopped increasing, but still isn’t going away.

TheMajician- …
TheMajician- Instead of shaving against the grain, relather and shave across the grain (90 degrees away from the grain) then relather and try against the grain. And remember, no pressure on the blade!

I think you meant …
I think you meant to say 45 degrees? Thanks so much for the videos… I asked for a DE safety razor and shaving brush for xmas, and if it wasn’t for you I’d have no clue how to use them. How did we cope before the internet?! I’m gonna try and grow a pencil moustache now I have a precision blade.

Sorry, I take it …
Sorry, I take it back, 90 was probably right, watching the videos again! I’m having trouble with my neck too now, and I think the problem is the curvature of the skin against the straight razor blade. I think I’ll have to leave it a few days to reduce in redness and bumpiness from my inept attempts, and be more careful next time. I copied the diagrams from the wet shaving video by hand - are they available on the web for printing?

I get razor burn …
I get razor burn really bad on my neck also. J-Hooking is the best method. If you are prone to razor burn, DO NOT shave against the grain.
